There is a difference between a silent ending and a quiet one. A quiet ending has decided something. A silent ending, more often, is a film that got scared of saying the thing out loud and hoped the absence would read as depth.
The consensus pick this round earned it: a full thirty seconds on a static frame, no music cue, the sound design left running just long enough that you notice the room you are sitting in before the credits arrive. That is a directorial decision, not a shortcut, and the club could tell the difference.
